I have had a blast writing the music for “The Money Man”. Ahamed and Sava, the developers, wanted modal jazz! Think “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis or “Maiden Voyage” by Herbie Hancock. I studied jazz in college and am still an avid performer in my hometown. I particularly love European jazz that incorporates these sounds from artists such as Tomasz Stańko and Jan Garbarek. So I was very excited to get an opportunity to use these skills to score a game!
During gameplay, there is a consistent base layer track that plays in the background for the first third of the game, the middle third, and the final third. As the days progress, the music gets much more synthetic and more futuristic to accompany the story.
Along with the base layers each third of the game has 4 vertically adaptive layers that accompany different settings in the game: The Backroom (which has 2 layers, a regular and an alternate version), The Speakeasy, and the Alley.
I hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as I enjoyed making it!
