Fortifend is a medieval fantasy base defense game in which you manage a fortified city that sprawls across procedurally generated terrain. Construct buildings and harvest resources in spring, summer and autumn. Defend your keep and citizens against hordes of 1000+ enemies that attack in winter. Recruit deadly wizards to lay waste to the horde. Terrain and buildings are 3D with a pixel art / low poly aesthetic and most other visuals are 2D pixel art. Developed in Godot.
Fortifend’s music is both Horizontally and Vertically adaptive. In Spring, Summer, and Autumn, all of the music is the same. I call the music “Peaceful Season” The seasonal changes are done through instrumentation and texture changes. This is called Horizontally adaptive music. This can be observed in the above video.
Spring has bells, plucks, and flutes.
Summer has more robust percussion, more colorful wind instruments, medieval bowed strings, and brass accompaniment.
Autumn has mallet percussion, storm samples, ancient horns, pipe organ, choir, and cello.
The video below shows the vertically adaptive Winter track. It features a base layer that always plays. Then Layers 2 and 3 can add on top of the base layer to add more intensity. When the player is close to failing, the Casualty Layer will play and when they are close to surviving the winter, the Victory Layer plays.
